GALA GRAND OPENING JANUARY 12th 2000 1 PM – 5 PM

The USER FRIENDLY DEMONSTRATION HOME
2281 SW Marine Dr., Vancouver

The User Friendly HomeÔ designation is a new symbol of achievement
that promotes efficiency, independence and increased safety for children,
seniors and all family members.

This showcase of advanced technologies and innovative architectural features will raise the standards for housing as we enter this new millennium. The simple and affordable modifications, which constitute a User Friendly Home, can be applied to any house plan to allow a safer more comfortable environment with invisible enhancements for seniors, children and those with any form of physical challenges.

The demonstration home will be a professional training and public awareness centre open to all consumers for interactive guided tours from January 12 – October 31, 2000. Special seminars are planned for the Real Estate, Building and Healthcare Industries to enable them to act as advocates for their clients and to help them to build more suitable housing for Canadians.

The project is in step with both Federal and Provincial programs on seniors housing initiatives. This venture is supported by BC’s Ministry of Housing, BC Gas, BC Hydro’s Power Smart Program, the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, the City of Vancouver, and over one hundred corporate and local business sponsors.

The innovative and timely nature of the User Friendly Demonstration Home addresses 80% of all the issues identified for ‘aging in place’ – a term we will see widely used in the coming years as the world’s baby boomers become senior citizens. Come and see for yourself just what all the fuss is about and the common sense approach to residential building for the next millennium!

We invite you to join us for the official grand opening Wednesday, January 12, 2000 In attendance to answer all your questions will be Patrick Simpson, President of User Friendly Homes Ltd. and representatives from more than 100 corporate sponsors from the building community including the architect, Mary Ann Clarke-Scott; the builder Leigh Grelish and suppliers of special features – some never before used in a private residence. Invited guests and dignitaries include Ted McWhinney, Al Hogarth, Colin Hansen, Sam Sullivan and Mayor Phillip Owen.

USER FRIENDLY HOMES . . .

. . .BUILDING For the Future

Sounds familiar...

...but, What is a User Friendly Home?

User Friendly Homes have been on display and of growing interest
in British Columbia, Canada for over a decade
.
Tolesky Village 1989   CMHC User  Friendly Home 1994     PNE Prize Home 1996

In 1987 the founder of User Friendly Homes Patrick Simpson, designed and developed Telosky Village in Maple Ridge - a housing project recognized as one of the landmarks of innovative housing design.

A New Vision in Housing

The User Friendly Demonstration Home will reveal how single and multiple unit dwellings can be built to provide a safer, more efficient living
environment for everyone, especially seniors and young children.
Developed to accommodate the need for more appropriate housing
for all user groups, the home will dually address cost effectiveness
and comfort using simple and easily integrated design methods
and products.

The home will act as a professional training and public awareness
center where guided, interactive tours will be offered to the public
for an entire year.   The site will also function as a training center for the
Real Estate, Building, and Healthcare industries through the
provision of professional tours and workshops, and is supported
by BC’s Ministry of Housing, Power Smart, BC Gas, CHBA,
the City of Vancouver and the Provincial and Municipal governments.
